TRADITIONAL QUÉBÉCOIS MUSIC With Marie-Clothilde Benoit and Willy leMaistre

Learn all aspects of Québec’s vibrant musical past including call and answer, scatting, jigs, square dancing, foot tapping, and spoons.
After having been trained in classical violin, Marie-Clothilde Benoit set her sights on becoming a fiddle player in the spirit and tradition of Québec. In time, she developped her own unique musical repertoire, which she sometimes accompanies with storytelling. She performs regularly in a trio called Le Grand Respir, along with Daniel Haché and Willy leMaistre or in a duo with leMaistre.
Willy leMaistre grew up in the world of folk music, his father having been one of the principle songwriters for Kate and Anna McGarrigle. Later he studied jazz guitar, arrangement, and composition at Saint-Laurent Cegep. A versatile musician, leMaistre plays guitar and Irish flute, enlivening his already exciting performances with singing and "clogging," in the traditional Québecois style.
